The oldest documents that testify to the existence of a chapel in the place where the church now stands date back to <strong>the early eleventh century<\/strong>. Carlo Bascap\u00e8, Bishop of Novara from 1593 to 1615, in his &#8220;Novaria Sacra&#8221; cites a document attesting the existence in Baceno of a chapel donated to the canons of Santa Maria di Novara by Gualberto di Pombia, Bishop of Novara from 1032 to 1039.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-c137d51\" data-id=\"c137d51\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e627032 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e627032\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The chapel, built in a <strong>rectangular plan in Lombard Romanesque style<\/strong>, was located where the presbytery is currently located. <strong>The first enlargement<\/strong> of the building, dating from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, <strong>changed its orientation<\/strong> and gave shape to the portion today represented by the <strong>central nave<\/strong> and the <strong>Romanesque facade<\/strong> between the two pilasters. On the occasion of the marriage, in <strong>1486<\/strong>, of Bernardino de Baceno, Valvassore imperiale di Antigorio e Formazza, to the noblewoman Ludovica Trivulzio, daughter of the representative of the Duke of Milan in Ossola, <strong>the Church of San Gaudenzio was embellished with the construction of the current aisles<\/strong>, in Gothic style.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3d0960e\" data-id=\"3d0960e\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-104e6fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"104e6fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the <strong>last decade of the 1500s<\/strong>, with the new norms established by the Council of Trent, <strong>new interventions began inside the Church of San Gaudenzio<\/strong>, whose structure was significantly modified with the <strong>inclusion of clear baroque elements<\/strong>, that since then dialogue in harmony with Romanesque and Gothic.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-41b0e86 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"41b0e86\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;jet_parallax_layout_list&quot;:[]}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-33 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4be4679\" data-id=\"4be4679\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7b54c13 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7b54c13\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the middle of the <strong>Romanesque stone fa\u00e7ade of the monumental Church of San Gaudenzio<\/strong> stands the portal, dominated by a <strong>rose window<\/strong> and flanked by the <strong>large fresco of San Cristoforo<\/strong>, painted in 1542. The <strong>imposing bell tower<\/strong>, with a square base and a side of seven meters, is <strong>31 meters high<\/strong>; the octagonal cusp was added in the seventeenth century.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-33 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-73df385\" data-id=\"73df385\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b539d43 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b539d43\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The <strong>large interior with five naves<\/strong>, divided by four series of columns, is characterized by a <strong>floor with a steep slope<\/strong> (almost a meter the difference in height from the beginning of the nave to the base of the steps of the presbytery), composed of slabs from the local stone &#8220;serizzo&#8221;.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-33 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-d920aac\" data-id=\"d920aac\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8b005d2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8b005d2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The <strong>side naves<\/strong> are made up of <strong>ten beautifully frescoed cruises<\/strong>; in addition to the <strong>imposing ciborium of the high altar<\/strong>, the Church of San Gaudenzio is enriched by <strong>seven side altars<\/strong> and the <strong>sixteenth-century Baptistery<\/strong> in white marble and wood, with frescoed walls and vaults.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-99debb8 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"99debb8\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;jet_parallax_layout_list&quot;:[]}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-15e42d5\" data-id=\"15e42d5\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-09478bb elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"09478bb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/visitbaceno.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Chiesa-di-San-Gaudenzio-Baceno-ph.-Paolo-Sartori-19-scaled.jpg\" data-elementor-open-lightbox=\"yes\" data-elementor-lightbox-title=\"Lo splendido interno della Chiesa di San Gaudenzio - Baceno - ph.
