In the footsteps of Saint Bernard

Inaugurated, for the first stretch from Baceno to Formazza, in mid-June 2023, the Via dell’Abate traces an important historical route through the wonders of a cross-border territory and is one of the most fascinating routes in the entire Alps.

From the Ossola Valley, the path, named after Abbot Nicolao de Rodis-Baceno, reaches the Swiss town of Disentis in the canton of Graubünden, seat of the great monastery of De Rodis-Baceno.

The first of the eight stages of the walk, which in 100 kilometers leads to Switzerland, begins in Baceno and ends in Cadarese: 8.5 km long, with a climb of 300 meters and a descent of 120 meters, is passable in about 2 hours and 20′.
