Baceno, in the heart of the Antigorio Valley, is a gateway to some of the most fascinating natural destinations in the Alps, including the Veglia-Devero Natural Park. It is a village rich in beauty and ancient testimonies.
Baceno has its roots in a distant past. Archaeological remains dating back to the 3rd millennium B.C. have been found in this area. Numerous traces of trade, exchanges and migration remain throughout the centuries.
A dramatic parenthesis is related to the spread of the plague, in the seventeenth century, and to the black pages of the witch trials of Croveo. The small hamlet still remembers this historical phase with a very participated event.
In Baceno some architectural structures of our mountain environment have remained intact, with characteristic wooden elements, protected by the typical roofs made of stone slab (“piode” in our slang).
The Church of San Gaudenzio is the symbol of the village. It represents the extraordinary focal point of Baceno’s cultural, architectural and religious offer. This symbolic place of worship stands on a high rock spur and is one of the most important and fascinating devotional gems of Northern Piedmont.
In addition to the central nucleus, Baceno has also many hamlets (Crampiolo, Crino, Croveo, Devero, Goglio, Graglia, Osso, Uresso) and localities (Cascine Vecchie, Esigo, Montepiano, Ponte Romano, Silogno, Verampio).
