The Baceno Devero Crampiolo is a historic race, born in 1970, not as a real competitive race, but as an opportunity to appreciate the spectacular scenery surrounded by nature where you run or walk. Over the years, however, it has also started to have a competitive value, with top athletes paving the way for families and uncompetitive hikers.
After a few years of forced stop, in 2024 the Baceno Devero Crampiolo race returns, scheduled on Saturday 14 September, and cuts the important goal of fifty editions.
The occasion will be celebrated by proposing the old route of the race (replaced in 2012) which will offer the opportunity to try again the emotion of that route traveled in 1998 by Severino Bernardini in the record time of 56’50. The 2024 edition of the race will be accompanied by another event characteristic of the territory of Baceno, the Scarghè feast, or transhumance, one of the most authentic events of rural life of Antigorio Valley and of the whole Ossola Valley.
After touching the woods around Baceno, the race will take participants to the highest altitudes of Alpe Devero, where the mountains are majestic and where the views are wide, to the small village of Crampiolo.
An incomparable natural environment accompanies athletes during most of the race, entering the Veglia Devero Natural Park: large pastures surrounded by larch woods, with undergrowth of rhododendrons and blueberries, which fade into the high-altitude prairies: a show not to be missed.
The non-competitive spirit that characterizes the race of Baceno Devero Crampiolo attracts fans of amateur sports but also families with children, who appreciate the walk in nature and then celebrate together with great athletes in a climate characterized by great conviviality and passion for the mountains.
